Item #151401 BNSF Green #1
Item #151411 BNSF Green #2
Burlington Northern Santa Fe inherited Gunderson Twinstacks from both of its immediate predecessors and many of these cars have now been renumbered into BNSF. Since repainting an entire Twinstack can cost a significant amount (particularly when the original paint is still in reasonably good shape) most have just been renumbered without receiving full BNSF graphics. The car seen above is the #1 car in this pair of releases. In this case, only the road numbers were blotted out with Cascade Green paint and new BNSF numbers added (in a plain gothic lettering style) while all of the original BN Innovative Intermodal Services logos were retained.
The car in the lower photo is #2 in this release. It started off as a standard BN green Twinstack, but in this case all of the BN logos were blotted out with big green rectangles on all five wells. The road numbers on the A and B wells are lettered with BNSF's current style instead of the plain gothic used on the other car. This car also uses the new standard for dimensional data not used on the other car.
Although both cars were built (and painted green) at about the same time, the paint has aged differently. The #2 car (which was photographed climbing Cajon Pass) was noticeably darker than the #1 car which was photographed in the Seattle area the same month. This difference is reflected in the models.
