St. Louis Southwestern, or Cotton Belt as it is better known was controlled by Southern Pacific for most of its history. The combined SP-Cotton Belt vied with Pennsylvania for the largest fleet of flat cars in the country. Contrary to most model railroader sensibilities, 53'6" was the "standard" length for flat cars in the transition era. Since so many loads were 50' long, the extra 3'6" allowed the load to be blocked and tied down. This model is a joint venture between deLuxe and GHQ. GHQ casts the bodies in Brittania Pewter and deLuxe paints and letters the cars.
