The Clinchfield Railroad is best known as a rugged, Blue Ridge Mountains coal hauler. With a mainline just 277 miles long, Clinchfield bored 55 tunnels and entered 5 states! Although 85% of their car fleet was coal hoppers, they did maintain a fleet of these AAR standard flats for serving several on line sawmills, moving heavy machinery (often mining equipment) and some even served in a pool of cars assigned to a large plate glass manufacturer. This flat car is a joint venture between deLuxe and GHQ. GHQ casts the car body from Brittania Pewter and deLuxe paints, letters, and packages the car. trucks and couplers are included as is an etched brass brake wheel and stand. The car is so heavy, it outweighs an MTL 50' box car, This provides for superior tracking qualities. An empty flat can run right behind the engines on the longest of trains.
This single road number for Clinchfield is a limited, numbered run with a total of just 200 cars being released.
